Hold Fast

August 27, 2018

A crisis of historic proportions is facing the Catholic Church. The moral rot and corruption that has infected the Church to the highest echelons is being exposed like a festering wound for all to see. And it is an ugly sight.

But the truth is, the crisis has existed for some time now, though many were either were ignorant of or willfully blind to it. That the evil lurking in the shadows is finally being exposed is a mercy, albeit a severe one.

I could say much about the roots of this crisis and perhaps offer solutions, but I will refrain. We do not need more opinions at this critical juncture, and who am I to offer them anyway? I will, however, offer this admonition: Hold fast.

In times past, sailors would tattoo the words “Hold Fast” on their knuckles in the belief that these words would help them cling to the rigging during violent storms. In like manner, we must “tattoo” the names of Jesus and Mary on our hearts so that we may withstand the storms facing us.

One of the chief instruments the devil uses against us is fear. Fear can destroy faith faster than nearly anything else. It can tear your heart in a thousand pieces if you let it.

And so what we need more than anything at this juncture is courage. Courage to bear witness to the faith when we are mocked and despised for it. Courage to cling to Christ and his commandments when our own shepherds betray us. Courage to live in the center of God’s will when everything in us is screaming at us to cut and run.

We have had it too easy for too long. And easiness breeds weakness. Let us be men of fortitude in this hour, for in such times saints are made.

These are indeed days of darkness. But the one thing darkness cannot stand is the light. Hold fast. Have faith. Pray constantly. Do not lose heart. For the Immaculate Virgin is crushing the serpent’s head.

Even if it’s hard to see the things this way, it’s true.
    The truth will liberate us.
As you wrote before, the penance, the prayer, being close to Jesus and Mary – this is the good remedy for this situation.
    God bless you, Brother.

I have just recently found your blog. I am not Catholic, however, a Jew who has converted to Christianity. My prayers are for your church. Thank goodness for strong Christians as yourself to help share words of encouragement and to keep your fellow brothers and sisters in Christ strong.

I’ve read this article several times and it’s been on my mind throughout the past week. While I can endure, I have a one year old son. One of my duties is to keep him safe. I will not voluntarily bring him to the lions den. It saddens me greatly, but the Church has institutionalized pedophilia and homosexuality at the highest levels and until this filth is cleansed I am done.

As our Pastor says, Satan wants you off the boat, he doesn’t care what side you get off of, he just wants you off. Even if there is a terrible storm and there is a fight going on in the wheel house you don’t get off! Lash yourself on with the Rosary and pray for the Grace to hold fast!
