No, it is not “lost”. Heavily damaged, but far from “lost”. Another example – of which there have been many inf the last 20 hours or so – of the perils of the internet/social media culture’s “rush-to-post” before thinking or getting the facts.
In fact most of the precious relics were saved. All 3 Rose windows survived. The core of the mediaeval building survived – its bell towers, buttresses, nave, vault, etc. The biggest loss was the roof and spire, which were mostly 19th C. and the most easily replaceable parts of the cathedral.
Thank the good Lord and our Blessed Mother, we did NOT lose Notre Dame. Damaged. Not lost.
